Charlotte, North Carolina – Home of InvestEd 2008 Things to Do, Places to Go, Sites to See
Charlotte and the entire state of North Carolina offer a dream destination for tourists. Known as the gateway to the South, Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and has a Southern ambience all its own. Nicknamed “The Queen City,” Charlotte was named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. Here is a glimpse of the Charlotte area, focusing on a sampling of things to do before, after, and along your way to InvestEd 2008. The climate in Charlotte, as well as in the coastal and Piedmont regions of eastern and central North Carolina, is relatively mild in both summers and winters. August temperatures should range from the high 60s to the high 80s. Golf, sailing, and fishing are among the locals' favorite past-times—not
to mention day trips. Charlotte lies within two hours of the Great Smoky Mountains,
three hours of the beaches of North and South Carolina, and two hours of the
Blue Ridge Mountains. For most auto racing enthusiasts, Charlotte is the heart
of NASCAR. Museums, Galleries, and Historic Buildings NASCAR and Sporting Facilities Scenic Spots Beyond the Piedmont: The Beaches Scenic Spots Beyond the Piedmont: The Mountains
