Family Dollar Stores, Incorporated Family Dollar Stores, founded in 1959 and headquartered in Charlotte, operates a chain of neighborhood retail discount stores in the United States. Goodrich Corporation Goodrich Corporation, founded in 1870 and headquartered in Charlotte, supplies components, systems, and services to the commercial and general aviation airplane markets, as well as to the defense and space markets worldwide. Nucor Corporation Nucor Corporation engages in the manufacture and sale of steel and steel products in the United States. The company was founded in 1940 and is based in Charlotte. Sonic Automotive, Incorporated Sonic Automotive, founded in 1997 and headquartered in Charlotte, operates as an automotive retailer in the United States. SPX Corporation SPX Corporation, founded in 1911 as The Piston Ring Company, is based in Charlotte. It changed its name to Sealed Power Corporation in 1931 and then to SPX Corporation in 1988. The corporation offers flow technology, thermal equipment and services, and industrial products and services primarily in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
